Do we need the sun to boost our mood?

Hey!

Today, during this typical autumn day when we miss the sun and the weather which allows us to wear light clothes, I am pondering about the meaning of the sun for people. To some of us, the sun is essential to feel good and happy. Obviously, it is cientifically proved that we need the sunlight to keep our bones healthy, to absorb calcium, to prevent osteoporosis and many other diseases such as a common cancer.

Regardless, let's not forget that many of the world's treasures are hidden in the dark.

One of the examples I found interesting are the river caves in Slovenia (unfortunately I haven't been there, so the "dark" picture is not from there, it is from Bieszczady, the polish mountains which look also impressive to me in the night). I read an article about these rarely seen river caves, it turnes out that the ones in Slovenia are characterized by it's extensive sizes, comparing to other river caves in the world. The name of the study specialized in investigating these karst forms is karstology, and it was pioneered in Slovenia. These kind of rock forms are interesting not only for scientifics but also for a common person. The caves enable the visitor to observe the speleothem, the water in action, aquatic animals, and all of these in the place where the sun doesn't shine.

Have you ever experienced such kind of happiness and fascination about a secret, hidden place?
